After more than a year of meetings with the Marketing team of a major retail chain of US retailers and the custom design of a Growtainer® installation has been delivered and will begin production in the first quarter of 2017.
“We spent over a year discussing the retailer’s concerns, their goals and when we reached a consensus and made sure we were in the right direction we started designing and manufacturing,” said Glenn Behrman, founder of Greentech Agro LLC and CEA Advisors LLC with Who have had the pleasure of working in Barcelona in one of his installations in a Biotechnology company.
Glenn Behrman and Growtainers® have come a long way from the first prototypes built in 2012 and recently donated to the Texas A & M Agrilife Research Center in Dallas. The costs of LED’s have dropped and their efficiency has improved.
“Our understanding of the importance and criticality of the growing environment and the need for intuitive control systems has increased and we are collaborating with more industry experts in all critical areas for the development of a well-balanced and successful production environment.”
According to Behrman, increasing global awareness of the need for local and indoor crop production has been the guiding thread in achieving the objectives, focused on LEDs of new generation, modern and sustainable agricultural practices in Indoor and Vertical cultivation and advanced control techniques.
They are the first in the USA to train their staff in the production “on site” of a food, in a closed system, with security systems, climatic control, illuminated by LED multilayer specific for vertical cultivation and production indoors. ”
“CEA Advisors is proud to work with a forward-thinking food distributor who is committed to innovation and focuses on food safety, having unique products of superior quality and customer experience,” said Behrman.
For this project, CEA collaborated with a McKinney Texas water management company, whose team assisted in the design and installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system. “The modifications of the containers were carried out by the largest and experienced group in the US leading horticulturist and supplier of goods and services offered by its experts for the ongoing project, as well.
The Growtainer® 53 has a separate work and preparation area and provides 45 square meters of climate controlled vertical production space, specially designed for maximum efficiency and strict compliance with food safety rules.
In addition to exclusive technology dedicated to flow and reflow irrigation, these Growracks® are also equipped with low energy consumption LED production modules specifically designed for multi-layer cultivation.
The irrigation system is divided into separate areas to provide flexibility and allow a wide variety of crop production at various stages of growth. Behrman worked closely with irrigation engineers to design a sophisticated control system.
The patented irrigation system is constantly monitored and any correction to EC or PH is done immediately. Each irrigation event is perfect for optimum plant growth.
